West Brom debrief as travel sickness overcome with 'beanpole' starring and boss and owners delighted

It has been a perfect Championship start for Albion and new head coach Ryan Mason.

Victories over Blackburn and Wrexham mean the Baggies are only one of three clubs with a 100 per cent record from two games.

Here is the debrief as Mason's men played the villains with their 3-2 success in the north Wales Disney classic.

Away blues banished

Sunderland, Preston, Watford, Derby, Sheffield United, Swansea, Bournemouth (in the FA Cup), Middlesbrough, Plymouth, Millwall, Leeds, Burnley, Norwich, Bristol City, Coventry and Cardiff.

Enough to make any travelling Baggie break out in a cold sweat. That is the 16-match run of away games since supporters last saw Albion win away from home - more than a month before Carlos Corberan left the club.

Thousands of miles of disappointment after a success in Hull last November and the fortunate 1,200 to get tickets in the compact settings of The Racecourse ensured they celebrated this one in style.

Wrexham will be a tough place to go this season. It was a huge step forward for new head coach Mason to banish such misery at the first time of asking.

Yes, a new season and new boss is a slate wiped clean but dragging out such a miserable sequence of winless results would have helped nobody.

Three big ticks to start the season - a victory at The Hawthorns, success away from home, as well as back-to-back wins for the first time in 11 months!

Price 'super-fit beanpole'

There is no doubting who Albion's man of the moment is to start this new campaign - Isaac Price looks every inch a star of the future.

The 21-year-old is also proving his side's shining light in the here and now with three goals from two league games. His two finishes at Wrexham, a cool first-time slotted effort across Danny Ward and a firm header planted in late on, were both highly-accomplished.

Speaking of 'every inch', club captain Jed Wallace - the Baggies' other goalscorer -  referenced Price's athleticism and his lean, rangy frame as the pair stood for post-match media duties.

Wallace claimed Price was 'the fittest player he has ever played with', a somewhat surprising and bold claim. He then described his young colleague as a 'beanpole' who should do better in the air with his 6ft 2ins frame.

Northern Ireland international Price claimed it was the first time he had scored a header. It should not be his last.

Owners' delight and unity

It was billed as the Rob and Ryan affair and, naturally, the multitude of television cameras could not keep their lenses off the hosts' A-List owners.

But Reynolds and McElhenney were mostly pictured wincing as their side were put to the sword.

There was an American ownership celebrating at full-time - but they did so next to the away end. Baggies chairman Shilen Patel, flanked by his cousin Ashish and sporting director Andrew Nestor, were very much part of the delirious 1,200 at the end.

"Shilen, start the boing!" belted the away end and Albion's owner did the honours, encouraged by his cousin.

The narrative of the visitors stealing the glamorous hosts' thunder is a perfect metaphor for how Bilkul are going about their running of the club. No razzmatazz, sequins, glitz or glamour like Wrexham or Birmingham, but an understated acknowledgement of where the club is and an 'Albion against the world' type mentality.

Baggies fans truly feels the Patels are their own. And that means a hell of a lot.

Mason satisfaction

Two league games of 46 in but Mason cut an understandably satisfied figure in his post-match duties. There were a couple of big hurdles to overcome last week and his side managed them.

The penalty shootout defeat was a blot on the copybook but he told the Express & Star that was the performance of the three he felt was the best.

With two important signings in as many days prior to the Wrexham clash - as Krystian Bielik and Toby Collyer checked in from Blues and Manchester United respectively - there is a lot to be satisfied about for the new head coach.

Albion have barely started, but Mason will feel very content with certain aspects from his players. They have looked well-drilled and physically fit.

The head coach's substitutes won the game on Saturday with Wallace and Mikey Johnston starring. The latter has the bit between his teeth and made his point with two assists as competition for attacking places cranks up.
