West Brom best against the big boys, says Jonas Olsson

Dressing room general Jonas Olsson today challenged Albion to raise their game against another Premier League 'big-boy' when they kick off their Christmas programme at Tottenham on Boxing Day.

The Baggies head for White Hart Lane for a battle of the caretaker managers, with Keith Downing looking likely to retain the reins of Steve Clarke's former side against a Spurs outfit under stand-in Tim Sherwood.

And, having played a part in the historic victory over Manchester United and strong performances against Chelsea and Arsenal, Olsson hopes Albion can once more be inspired to challenge another of the top-four contenders.

"They are struggling a bit as well so it will be an important game for them," said Olsson.

"But this year we have tended to put in our best performances against the bigger teams, so hopefully this will be a game that suits us.

"It's not been an ideal time. It's been a bit turbulent with the gaffer going. But you just focus on the next game and try to get out of a bad run.

"We worked hard last week and tried to block all the other things out and try to put in a good performance against Hull."

Matej Vydra's late equaliser on Saturday ensured a draw that ended the run of four successive defeats that cost Clarke his job.

And Olsson hopes Vydra's strike can have a similar impact to Gareth McAuley's late header at Fulham in September, which sparked a run of impressive performances that included the victory at Old Trafford.

"Keith mentioned that Fulham goal after Saturday's game," said Olsson. "We were on a bad run before that and got a late equaliser, which gave us a boost for the games afterwards, so hopefully we can get something like that again.

"You need to believe in what you do and we showed that on Saturday.

"We were patient and we tried to keep possession and open Hull up.

"We always speak of goals and ambitions for the season and the ambition is to finish up there again, but always with ambitions you need to be humble as well and realise that this is a really tough league.

"No disrespect to Hull, but it was a game we wanted to get three points from. But one point for each team was the right result."

Vydra, meanwhile, hopes for his first Premier League start on the back of his vital strike against the Tigers. And Olsson believes the Czech Republic international will add an extra option for Downing.

"He did well when he came on, but there are players who have been playing ahead of him who have also done very well," said the Swede.

"It's good that we have a lot of different qualities up front. We've got Victor Anichebe with his physical presence, Shane Long with his ability to run for 90 minutes and we have Matej and Saido Berahino, who are very lethal in front of goal.

"Matej showed on Saturday that he's an impact player."
