Watson is keen to stay with the Baggies for the rest of the season after scoring his first goal for the club in Saturday's 3-2 win against Preston.

Now the 24-year-old has admitted for the first time his interest in making the move for good.

He said: "It would be nice but we will just take it one step at a time. We will take it to the end of the season and then see where we are.

"I am signed to the end of the season, but Wigan have got a call-back on me after 28 days so after the Coventry game on Wednesday they can call be back, but hopefully they won't.

"I haven't heard anything at the moment. They got a good result on Saturday which might see them safe themselves so hopefully I will be here until the end of the season.

"It's been frustrating this season but I am enjoying my football again."

Watson has played just 13 times for Wigan since moving from Crystal Palace in a £2million deal in January 2009, spending time on loan at QPR this season before joining the Baggies.

The player is keen to settle at the Hawthorns at least until the end of the season.

He said: "I just want to play as many games as I can and help this team achieve promotion. As a professional footballer all you want to do is play and when you're not getting that opportunity it's hard.

"Now I've got the opportunity and hopefully I can kick on. You go home and you've got your family and friends' support but as a professional footballer you want to play week in, week out and when it doesn't happen you've just got to dig in.

"Now it's starting to happen for me. I am living in Birmingham now and it's fine. I have lived in a few places but hopefully I am settled now and I can unpack the suitcases."
