Albion boss Tony Mowbray today confirmed there have been inquiries from "one or two" clubs about wantaway Curtis Davies. It is understood Villa and Spurs are the two clubs in question, with the Premiership pair set to go head-to-head in an £8m battle for the defender's services. The Express & Star understands Spurs remain the 22-year-old's preferred destination, although Villa boss Martin O'Neill has made Davies a top target after already losing out on Hearts keeper Craig Gordon. Davies is expected to leave The Hawthorns before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but until a deal is done Mowbray insists he and Paul Robinson, who remains hopeful of joining Wigan, will be considered for selection. "I think there has been dialogue with a club or two regarding Curtis but at this moment in time there has been no agreement so there is nothing further to say on the matter," said Mowbray.

"I think there has been dialogue with a club or two regarding Curtis but at this moment in time there has been no agreement so there is nothing further to say on the matter," said Mowbray."There have been no developments regarding Curtis or Paul we can talk about.

"Both situations are ongoing and credit to both players, they are both applying themselves very well in training.

"They understand whilst they are here they have to be committed to our club and available and ready for selection if required.

"They are under consideration for tomorrow but I've got to take all those different scenarios into account when I select the team.

"Things going on in the background might dictate if they are selected or not."

Mowbray has told the pair they will be able to leave for the right deals but insists the players he's brought in over the summer aren't being considered direct replacements.

"They are not replacements," added Mowbray.

"People are here to create competition in the squad.

"If the two players are still here on September 1 they must make sure they are fully committed to the cause.

"They are two very talented players and it can only help and strengthen us.

"I am aware of their own desires and if they can be facilitated it will happen, but clubs have got to reach our valuation of the players.

"I have always said that if players don't want to play for the club I'd rather they weren't here.

"But at the same time we are in the business world and you don't just give your best assets away."
