The 20-year-old was training with the Baggies today after completing his move from Dundee United on a two-and-a-half-year deal with a one-year option.

And Allan has admitted to a frustrating last two years because of a broken leg and the contract wrangle that saw him exiled from the Terrors' first team.

"The last two years has been a long two years football-wise," said Allan, who has made nine appearances for the Tannadice club this season.

"I had time out of the game through injury and then I was playing and not playing because of things not even to do with football.

"So, I'm just happy to be here and to get started again.

"Last season I had a lot of bad luck with a broken leg. I was out for about four or five months.

"It was a clean break and that probably helped it recover properly.

"If anything, I think I've come back stronger after all the gym work.

"As soon as you hear someone has broken their leg you always fear the worst. But with the right rehab you can recover fine.

"My friends and family helped me through it and some of the older players at United. Breaking through therefore happened a bit later than it should have.

"But when I got my chance this season I took it and I wanted to push on."

Allan was hoping to become an SPL regular this season but found himself back on the sidelines after he refused to sign a new deal amid rumours of Albion's interest and potential bids from Rangers and Celtic.

"I had a good pre-season, got a run of games at the start of the season and played for the Under-21s national team," he said.

"Obviously teams coming in for me and showing interest kind of halted me playing for United.

"I just had to keep my head down and get on with training.

"Now it's been worth it because I've signed here."

Meanwhile, Albion defender James Hurst today joined Chesterfield on a youth loan until the end of the season.

The Baggies can recall the 19-year-old at any time after the first 28 days.
