The 21-year-old has pulled out of the squad for tomorrow's friendly with South Africa with a hamstring problem which puts an early question mark over his availability for the Baggies' trip to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Scotland boss Alex McLeish confirmed Morrison, who has switched international allegiance from England through his grandparents, would have played a part at Pittodrie if he had been fit.

McLeish said: "Unfortunately, Morrison is out with a hamstring injury.

"He felt it on Saturday with West Brom, but thought it was just fatigue.

"Sadly, he has gone home, but we will monitor James in the next few weeks and months ahead.

"He would have been on the pitch at some stage, maybe not starting, but he is a bright young player and we are looking forward to seeing him in action."

Morrison's Albion team mate Craig Beattie is also missing from the staring line-up for tomorrow night's friendly.

Beattie, a £1.25m summer signing from Celtic, will hope to be included among the substitutes as he looks to add to his one goal from four caps.
