Lewis Cox's predicted West Brom line-up v Blackburn - with attacking decision

Head coach Ryan Mason is in the process of deciding his first Albion line-up for a competitive fixture.

The Championship curtain-raiser sees the Baggies welcome Blackburn, managed by former boss Valerien Ismael, on Saturday.

With just under a month of the transfer window remaining, Albion do not have the biggest squad in the Championship and a couple of injury concerns ahead of the new season means options are thinner on the ground for Mason.

One selection decision Mason does have to make is in the attacking department.

New recruit Aune Heggebo, the £4.7million signing, is a strong bet to start. He did so and did well against Rayo Vallecano last weekend and Daryl Dike is injured and Josh Maja is not yet fully fit - he missed the last friendly due to a reaction to making a comeback at Lincoln. Maja was pictured in training this week, however, which is a boost.

Just behind is almost certain to feature Tom Fellows on the right flank and Mason would be bold not to start Isaac Price, who was a substitute but shone from the bench against Rayo.

There is not much to choose between Karlan Grant and Mikey Johnston in that other attacking role, over to the left.

Grant has been in the goals and started most of the friendlies. Johnston has been sharp, lively and had the bit between his teeth since coming off the failed move to Brazil. I always like to see Johnston involved but think Mason will edge with Grant for his productivity on goal.

Further back and the side more or less picks itself. Ousmane Diakite should return from a minor ankle knock but Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby will almost certainly be the midfield pairing.

The backline is a given. There was news this week Torbjorn Heggem's move to Bologna had hit the buffers for now, so I expect the Norwegian to be included form the off.

Have a look at Albion correspondent Lewis Cox's predicted line-up below.
