Latest update on absent West Brom midfield duo as injury list grows

Ryan Mason does not expect Albion midfield woes to have eased for Tuesday's clash at Charlton.

The Baggies have been without Jayson Molumby and Toby Collyer due to muscle issues for a run of three winless games.

Head coach Mason, whose side were booed off after Saturday's stalemate against Sheffield Wednesday, has instead used captain Alex Mowatt and Ousmane Diakite.

Defender George Campbell also joined the list of absentees with his omission against the Owls. Campbell injured his groin in the recent defeat at Ipswich.

"Well, neither of them are trained with a team, so no," said Mason of the midfield pair's availability having also ruled out Campbell to face the Addicks.

"Listen, no excuses. That's why we play football. The expectation for every player in the squad is to be able to play every three days.

"If we have too many players that aren't capable of doing that, then it's not good. We knew the demands, we know the demands, and everyone in this league knows how challenging it is.

"You need players that are able to back it up every two or three days."

Summer centre-back signing Campbell, 24, has played at right-back for the majority of the campaign but felt the muscle issue at Portman Road two Saturdays ago. Alfie Gilchrist came in against Wednesday for a full home debut.

Mason felt American Campbell's season running since February with previous club Montreal could have played a part with the setback.

"It's really disappointing to lose him and we'll miss him," added the head coach. "He's had an extremely long season. We knew at some point we were probably going to have to give him a week or so, and we were hoping we could have got him to a certain sort of point.

"Unfortunately he felt his groin, so we're not sure when he's going to be back."
