'I wish him all the best' - West Brom set for reunion

Karlan Grant left West Brom in the summer after six years at the club.

West Brom boss James Morrison hopes ‘great servant’ Karlan Grant is welcomed back by The Hawthorns crowd tonight.

Grant returns to the place he called home for six years with early Championship pacesetters Charlton Athletic, who have won all three league games so far this season.

The former Baggies attacker scored in the most recent of those - a 1-0 victory over Preston North End - after failing to agree a deal to stay in the West Midlands.

“We have Granty coming back, who was a great servant for the club, always gave 100 per cent,” said Morrison at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference. “I hope he gets a nice reception.”

Morrison revealed he wanted Grant to extend his six-year stay at The Hawthorns, but instead had to wish him well as he made his move to south London.

“I understood the positions from both sides,” said the Baggies boss. “We just couldn’t come to a deal really.

“I wish him all the best because he was a pleasure to work with, someone I had a close relationship with.

“He is probably happy with the way we have started and he can see the progression we have made in a short period of time.”

Though Albion have made a good start, it can’t match that of Nathan Jones’ side, who have beaten Derby, West Ham and Preston - as well as winning at Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup - to mark a perfect first month of the campaign.

“It’s just the surprise of the division really,” added Morrison. “Obviously, they have an experienced manager, who has managed at a higher level.

“He has managed some big clubs and has a way of playing. His team is full of energy and he has found a way to win at the start of the season. I am expecting a really tough game.”
