Fortune urged to be selfish

Albion coaches have urged striker Marc-Antoine Fortune to be more selfish in an effort to coax more goals from the hard-working Frenchman.

First-team coach Peter Grant revealed staff are working with the on-loan striker, to get him on the scoresheet more regularly in the final seven games.

Fortune has struck just three times since moving from Nancy in January despite some impressive all-round displays.

Grant said: "Unfortunately, as a striker, people look at the goals you've scored. From a football point of view we've been very pleased with his all-round performance for the team.

"We knew he wasn't a prolific goalscorer who was going to score 25 goals. But people who play alongside him usually get goals because of his unselfish running, which takes defenders away from good areas.

"He does that very well and that's why, as soon as Marc came in, Robert Koren started scoring. Marc's done exceptionally well, but now we're saying 'get into areas which hurt the opposition'.

"I thought he led the line really well against Stoke and worked hard for the team, but sometimes he works too hard, because he finds himself in areas where he's not a danger to the opposition.

"But I would love to play alongside him if I was a striker, because of the work ethic he gives the team."
