Ferguson still cool on Albion link

Albion target Barry Ferguson has admitted his future is out of his hands after playing potentially the final match of his Glasgow Rangers career.

The former Scotland captain came in from the cold to start the Gers' Scottish Cup Final win over Falkirk.

But his future at Ibrox still remains in major doubt, after the 'Boozegate' affair that saw him banned from international football.

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray is ready to pounce to add the 31-year-old to his Championship promotion campaign for next season.

Asked about his future in the wake of Saturday's match, Ferguson said: "I don't know, we will just have to wait and see what happens in the summer.

"I'm just going to enjoy this. At the end of the season we've won the double.

"It wasn't a great game, but at the end of the day it's all about winning. I have got another year left on my contract.

"I'm just going to enjoy this and go away on holiday and we will see what happens when I come back."

Ferguson is top of Albion's summer wanted list, with manager Mowbray pressing ahead with plans for next season despite continued speculation linking him with a move to Celtic.

Rumours from Glasgow were muted this weekend, as the Bhoys attempted to dampen speculation after having their fingers burned in the failed attempts to lure Owen Coyle from Burnley.

The Hoops now hope to sound out their preferred candidates privately, although Parkhead sources have denied claims in the Welsh media that they had approached Swansea for permission to speak to highly-rated boss Roberto Martinez.

Mowbray is reported to have been second to Coyle in the Celtic directors' original shortlist to replace Gordon Strachan.

Fresh speculation at the weekend have also linked Mowbray's assistant, Mark Venus, with the vacant manager's job at Hibernian.

The former Wolves defender was Mowbray's number two during a successful spell at Easter Road and is reportedly one of the names being considered, as Hibs directors hunt a successor to Mixu Paatelainen.
