Ex-Premier League team-mate backs James Morrison to put West Brom 'where they belong'

Calls for James Morrison to land the West Brom job on a permanent basis have been growing.

James Morrison’s future remains up in the air - but the calls are growing for him to land the Albion job on a permanent basis.

Having taken over after the disastrous reign of Eric Ramsay - Morrison has guided Albion to a ten match unbeaten run, which has been enough to secure Championship safety not once but twice.

They got over the line with a game to spare on Saturday - with a point required against Ipswich Town, following a two point deduction over financial issues.

Now attention is turning to Morrison’s future, with an Express & Star poll this week revealing around 96 per cent of Albion fans would like to see the former midfielder land the job on a permanent basis.

It came after ex-Albion striker Shane Long threw his weight behind Morrison. And now another ex-Baggie has given his support.

Gareth Barry spent two years alongside Morrison at Albion - one in the Premier League and one in the Championship.

And the former all time Premier League appearance holder insists Morrison has done enough to deserve the job - and he believes he can put Albion back ‘where they belong’.

Speaking to Midnite: “100% (James Morrison deserves the full-time job).

“I played alongside James and I know he loves his football. He lives for football.

"The one thing Albion did correctly when they gave it to him this time was to let him know he’s taking the job until the end of the season. That settles everyone down, helps him making his decisions, he knows he hasn’t got to react overnight and do things quickly to get points on the board.

"He's already done enough, the points deduction didn't affect their position. Going forward, I’d like to see him have a go at next season, bring in some players to strengthen the squad.

"He knows the club inside out, he’ll put the commitment in to get West Brom back to where they belong, higher up in the Championship and challenging for a place in the Premier League."
