Carlos Corberan makes West Brom transfer prediction after "three or four" claim

Carlos Corberan confirmed Albion's ambition to make three or four new signings before this month's transfer deadline – but added new blood before Saturday's visit of Leeds is unlikely.

The Baggies crashed out of the EFL Cup at the first hurdle as a makeshift group of young players and new faces were undone 2-1 by League Two hosts Fleetwood.

Corberan handed seven debuts from the start and bench as summer recruits like Paddy McNair, Gianluca Frabotta, Lewis Dobbin and Devante Cole played the most part of the tie at Highbury Stadium.

Albion's squad remains light and the head coach made a full raft of changes from Saturday's league curtain-raiser at QPR, with an entirely youthful bench on the Fylde Coast.

Corberan is focused on beefing his squad in several areas. He said: "After the pre-season we have done and with the few first-team players we have right now, with injuries (or no pre-season) with some new players we have, we are still ready to add three or four players we haven't done yet.

"I had to follow medical and physical advice from the department that they understand the best thing for us was to rest some players that made a massive effort on Saturday and the risk today with the game and travel would've created problems for us too."

Asked if recruits are close or could possibly be finalised in time for Saturday's home opener with Leeds, the head coach added: "We know that we have the target to bring in at least three players but still we need to wait for the right moment to bring in the players, like we know you would like to have everyone quick, but you have to adapt to the market, to your possibilities, to make things happen.

"No, I don't think so (for Saturday), for the day of the week we are right now it is going to be difficult to bring someone new, even if we wanted to. We are committed as a club to do it, unfortunately we don't manage these timings in the way we would like."
