The Spaniard marks two years with the Baggies on Friday week and has forged a strong affinity with the club and region in that period.

Head coach Corberan has spoken with his fondness for working in England – particularly given how the nation has allowed him to develop in the role, while he also met his wife Claudia on these shores and the couple have two children.

“I used to think I was a young coach, but now you see a different age of players and I am one of the experienced ones in a short space of time!” Corberan said.

“It feels only yesterday I was appointed as Huddersfield coach and now there have been more years.

“I can only tell you that making a career in this club will be one thing that would make me happy – to extend my career in this club. It would make me very, very happy.”

Former Leeds youth boss, No.2 to Marcelo Bielsa and Huddersfield chief Corberan took charge from the axed Steve Bruce in October 2022 with the Baggies second-bottom of the pile in the Championship. He has led Albion on two play-off charges, one fell just shy before a semi-final defeat.

The Spaniard, a former goalkeeper before retiring young, is contracted until 2027 at The Hawthorns and has drawn admiring glances from rival clubs, both at Championship rivals and the Premier League.

Albion are understood to be relaxed about his contract status, with some two-and-a-half years to run on the improved terms he penned in early 2023.
