Brian McDermott and Derek McInnes not in the West Brom frame
Albion's hunt for a new head coach looks set to stretch well into June after Brian McDermott and Derek McInnes became the latest names apparently ruled out.
New technical director Terry Burton is in the process of finalising the seven-man shortlist to hand to chairman Jeremy Peace, with the club keen to appoint Pepe Mel's successor as soon as possible.
But with interviews still to take place and key personnel taking pre-arranged holidays, the process looks set to extend well into next week at least.
Leeds boss McDermott, who had been the early favourite with some bookies in the wake of Mel's dismissal, has not been contacted about the job.
That makes him an almost certain non-starter in the final race to land the post.
The former Reading manager is set for key meetings next week to discuss Leeds' plans, but as things stand he is expected to remain at Elland Road and has not been in contact with Albion.
And it is understood McInnes, who captained the club to promotion to the Premier League, is also unlikely to be on the list presented to Peace and chief executive Mark Jenkins.
He has rebuilt his reputation after a difficult spell at Bristol City by enjoying success at Aberdeen, but he is still viewed as lacking the necessary experience for a Premier League role.
The pair join Malky Mackay and Neil Lennon on the list of out-of-work bosses who have not been approached.
Real Madrid assistant boss Paul Clement, ex-Norwich chief Chris Hughton and former Wolves manager Dave Jones have also been ruled out, while David Moyes and Tim Sherwood are believed to be long shots.
Reading boss Nigel Adkins was rumoured to be a contender but that has been played down by sources close to the ex-Southampton manager.
