Preston boss Darren Ferguson revealed the Championship club turned down the Baggies' latest bid last night.

Now Hawthorns sources have insisted they will not offer any more for the 26-year-old, signalling a move to alternative targets.

Sheffield Wednesday's Lee Grant, Boaz Myhill of Hull and Sunderland's Marton Fulop have all been considered by Albion his summer and all three are now likely to be discussed again.

The value of the offers for Lonergan has not been revealed but they are thought to fall well short of Preston's valuation of more than £2million for last season's Player of the Year.

Ferguson said: "They have been in three times now and we have turned down every bid.

"I think everyone has some sort of perception that the club is skint, but the chairman and the owner are trying to help me as much as they can and to turn down a third bid suggests that.

"We got the latest bid yesterday, but I value him at £20million. I don't want to sell him.

"I'm not being funny, but Albion are not going to get him for what they are bidding, no chance."

Albion had identified Lonergan, who figured in Preston's 3-0 friendly win against Blackburn last night, as the man they want to fight with Scott Carson for the goalkeeping berth.

Lonergan is believed to be keen on the move to the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether he will press the issue with his club.

That could prompt Albion to revisit Lonergan but for the time being they are looking elsewhere.

But Ferguson said: "Andy has never been a problem. He has trained well, was totally focused last night and I was pleased for him that we got a clean sheet. He has been here 10 years and he has never said to me that he wants to move on.

"I respect that if some sort of deal was agreed and he has to speak to them then that's fine, but Albion are nowhere near our valuation."
