West Brom left with Josh Griffiths concern as boss provides Krystian Bielik update

The goalkeeper was withdrawn at half-time, however, due to an injury Ramsay described as a 'foot or toe' issue. Griffiths picked up the injury in an early collision while rushing out of goal to meet Mathias Kvistgaarden in a move that ultimately proved offside.

Griffiths played on until half-time but was replaced by current Championship first-choice Max O'Leary. The former was spotted wearing a protective boot at full-time after the visitors' Cup exit.

"I'm not sure of the extent of it but obviously not a great sign," Ramsay said.

"We will reassess on Monday and if we need to pivot in that department then I'm sure we will.

"It's a foot injury, sort of toe or foot type of thing, I'm not actually completely sure of the mechanism but certainly giving him enough pain to change it at half-time."

Griffiths was dropped by boss Ramsay following the 5-0 home defeat against Norwich last month, following which the Baggies moved to bring in O'Leary from Championship rivals Bristol City on a permanent deal and six-month contract.

Albion allowed Joe Wildsmith, who had slipped to third-choice, to move out on loan to league leaders Middlesbrough on deadline day. Wildsmith has gone in as deputy at the Riverside Stadium.

If Griffiths is sidelined for a period it could mean a battle between young Albion goalkeeper Joe Wallis and Ben Cisse of the academy as back-up on the bench on matchday.

New Zealand youth international Wallis, 20, has travelled as Albion's third keeper for much of the season. Home town Albion youngster and England youth international, also 20, recovered from a lengthy injury setback before Christmas to return between the sticks for the under-21s last month.

Meanwhile, Albion defender Krystian Bielik played 78 minutes on his comeback from a shoulder injury before succumbing to cramp.

The experienced Bielik, 28, who wore the armband, has made 16 appearances this season and his absence has been felt in recent weeks after a dislocated shoulder at Derby in January.

Chris Mepham and George Campbell (both hamstring) as well as Nat Phillips (concussion) have missed games of late.

"Krystian had cramp and I think obviously he's had an innocuous injury, a couple of innocuous injuries," the head coach added.

"They are not soft tissue injuries, but then there's always those two parallel tracks where you're trying to preserve someone from a shoulder re-injury in Krystian's instance, but then if he doesn't play for long enough then you also run the risk of soft tissue injuries arising with not enough minutes under his belt.

"So I think today was ideal for him, some cramp at the end but he came through well and he will be an important player for us between now and the end of the year."
