But it could be at some cost as Mepham, who caught the eye with an improved display alongside centre-back colleague Nat Phillips, limped off with a hamstring injury in the final 10 minutes and is a doubt for Tuesday night's trip to Birmingham City.

"I would just cross my fingers, I suppose, I've got no idea as to the severity of it," Ramsay said.

"I think sometimes they can be seemingly not quite as problematic as you'd think, and then they turn out to be very problematic and vice versa.

"So I think it's wait until we get the info."

Defensive injury concerns are mounting for Ramsay and Albion with Krystian Bielik (shoulder) and George Campbell (hamstring) already sidelined.

Campbell is closer to a return but is not expected to be back in time to face Blues on Tuesday night.

Bielik's return will also depend on how he can handle physical contact after a serious dislocated shoulder. Both have started light running work at Albion's training ground.

"(We're) really stretched across the backline, but we will find a way and we will be constructive and positive," Ramsay added.

"We'll make sure that we feel good about whatever we go with. That will obviously be added to some big, big physical outputs from those guys.

"Mowey (Alex Mowatt) in the middle, Jayson (Molumby) in the middle, Isaac (Price), Callum (Styles) - big, big performances from them from a physical perspective, and we'll have to go and follow that up."
