Former West Brom boss exits lowly rivals Blackburn - with another ex-Baggie chief reportedly lined up
Albion's relegation rivals Blackburn have confirmed Valerien Ismael has left his position as head coach by mutual consent.
A 1-0 defeat at home by Hull on Saturday stretched Rovers’ winless run to eight matches in the Sky Bet Championship, which has seen them drop into the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.
Ismael won just 11 of his 43 fixtures after being appointed 12 months ago and he has now parted ways with Blackburn, who revealed Dean Whitehead has also stepped away from his role as assistant head coach.
Blackburn are currently the only side beneath and separating Albion and the Championship drop zone.
They host doomed basement boys Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, however, where a home victory would see managerless Blackburn knock the Baggies into the bottom three.
Rovers said in a statement: “The club will now begin the process of appointing a new head coach and will make no further comment until an appointment is confirmed.”
Tony Mowbray, another former Baggies boss, has been linked with a return to Ewood Park, having managed Blackburn between 2017 and 2022.
It is understood, however, that Mowbray is unlikely to make a return to Blackburn as things stand.
Reportedly in the running for the Rovers hotseat is Slaven Bilic, like Mowbray a promotion-winning Baggies boss.
Bilic is out of work since leaving Saudi side Al-Fateh in 2024.
