Under-fire Ryan Mason frustrated at 'passive' West Brom in latest away defeat

Mason was exasperated by a first-half display he labelled "passive" - a far cry from the rousing second half comeback win at home to Swansea last weekend.

His side once again failed to build on a victory as they slumped to 16th. The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time and Rumarn Burrell accepted two second-half gifts for the Rs to seal the win despite Aune Heggebo's fine header.

"We were far too passive in the first half, far too passive and obviously in the second half we gifted them two goals and it's not something that you can do at this level or at any level," Mason said.

"The formula away from home is certainly something that we're chasing to try and help the lads because at the minute it's not working."

He added: "My opinion in the first half was it was just far too passive and the energy, the intensity wasn't there.

"There wasn't many chances, but more than that, it was the performance that we didn't show ourselves. In the second half we did. It changed. It was different.

"There was a different energy, you know, it was a lot more brave, a lot more aggressive. We were a better team in the second half, barring two costly individual errors, which is tough to take."

Fans once again travelled well with the 1,700 allocation sold out, though there were empty seats in the Loftus Road away section.

But Baggies fans were once again treated to a gloomy away day and more capital punishment as four of the six straight defeats have arrived in or around London clubs.

The terrible run away from The Hawthorns came after a bright start for the Baggies on their travels this term but a Josh Griffiths-inspired win at Norwich on October 1 feels a distant memory.

Griffiths was dropped for Joe Wildsmith at Loftus Road after recent errors but the number two was unable to keep QPR at bay. He was partly at fault for the third goal and was let off another error by Burrell's open goal miss.

Asked about the following and their audible boos, the head coach replied: "Of course, 100 per cent. Our fans are incredible in terms of how much they travel. They bring the numbers. I think there was a sell-out today from the away end, which is amazing.

"We managed to win three away games relatively early this season and we thought we kind of changed that feeling of being away from home and not being able to pick up results. But that hasn't been the case for a good number of weeks now.

"I understand the frustrations. I'm frustrated too. The players are frustrated.

"We need to give back to the fans and at the moment, we're not being able to give back to them away from home. So I fully understand the frustrations, the disappointment."
