Ally Robertson: Carlos Corberan finally has tools for the big play-off race

We know we can’t buy anybody, we have to get loan players in, and we’ve done that – hopefully they have a successful time with us and help us secure the play-offs.

It helps that we now have players in the building to bring on, especially attackers, because we’ve just not had that depth and competition on the bench this season.

If we can keep that ticking over, keep clear of racking up injuries, then we are in a stronger position.

It was a promising showing from the bench for our new players in their first outing in front of the home support. When they came on in the game they had to make a positive impression to get the fans on side.

To be fair to them, they did well. Obviously we had Andi Weimann as the match-winner and the other attacking lads involved too.

We are at the point in the season now where it is just about points. We want to play decent football, but the big thing is to make sure we don’t get beat, especially when it comes to our away record, which really needs some improvement.

We’ve got to start picking up more points away from home – that is what has not been happening for most of the season. Some of the recent away games we’ve done OK, started well enough, missed some chances and let goals in down the other end.

Ipswich will be a seriously tough test but we need to start a little unbeaten run away from home if we can – avoid defeat, maybe a couple of wins, to try to build on that gap we have began to build down to seventh.

The big thing with that, too, is that we then don’t have to win every home game – though we have been pretty impressive in that department.

The next few weeks are really important for us – games are coming fast and it could be time to make the difference.

We’re still in the top six, I’m feeling positive, the next handful of games are going to be crucial.

Looking back to the eventful Wolves FA Cup tie, we played OK and had a couple of chances we could’ve scored from early on but we gave away some silly goals, especially the first. But at the end of the game, when all of the trouble broke out, I couldn’t believe it. It was the first time I’d ever seen the Albion fans do things like that.

I love both clubs, I played for both, I just wanted it to be a good game and the best team on the day wins.

But I just found it so sad to see how it ended up. So sad.

I’ve followed Albion for most of my life, since 1968, but I’ve never seen the fans throw things at others like that and other things too. It was so disappointing and not right.

It was two local sides, yes you are always going to have rivalry against each other, but you live the game and then whichever way it goes you have a laugh afterwards.

A week later we have the case of alleged racism against a Blues player in Saturday’s win – that is another example of something I’d never seen or relate to with Baggies supporters.
