Preston v West Brom preview: Albion must kick the habit and turn draws into wins

Next up, Albion travel to the home of the Championship’s only unbeaten club tomorrow.

Deepdale will be the venue, and opponents Preston North End are yet to drop a single point on home soil in the league (four wins).

Ryan Lowe’s charges have collected 20 points from a possible 24, and boast the second best defensive record in the division (six goals conceded).

Meanwhile, the Baggies have not tasted victory on the road in the league since April – a run stretching six league games (three draws, three defeats).

Nonetheless, two clean sheets in three for Alex Palmer does provide Albion with a platform to build from, especially once their attack finally starts to click again. Palmer endured a nervy start to the campaign, but has recovered to play an instrumental role in recent weeks.

He produced a series of saves at Ashton Gate, and sprung into a stunning stop to thwart Ismael Kone’s second-half header at Watford.

And he served up another match-defining moment by denying Zian Flemming from the spot during the first half against Millwall.

Corberan has been forced to work with a thin squad, and his attacking options have been completely obliterated by injury, with Brandon Thomas-Asante serving as his only available out-and-out centre- forward.

Daryl Dike has been out since April, and is not expected to return until at least December, while Josh Maja has missed the last two games as part of an eight-week lay-off.

Corberan has explored all of his options to provide Thomas-Asante with support up top. The forward revealed earlier this week that he has adapted to playing as a sole striker, despite being more accustomed to playing in a front two.

Jed Wallace and John Swift started on the flanks at Vicarage Road, as the pair produced a goal apiece, with the latter taking his season tally to four.

Jeremy Sarmiento and Grady Diangana were handed their first starts of the season for the visit of Millwall.

Both players will be looking to add another dimension for Albion in the final third, although Diangana may take a little more time to hit form having just returned from injury.

Adam Reach (thigh) remains a long-term absentee for Albion, while Martin Kelly will step up his rehabilitation from his own long-term absence.

Kelly sustained a serious knee injury on his debut for loan club Wigan in February, and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The defender will work on a technical drill with the coaching staff today, although a return to action still seems to be some way off.
