Carlos Corberan: West Brom's striker "responsibility" amid Sory Kaba interest
Carlos Corberan insists Albion have a "responsibility" to bring in a striker before the Championship kicks off this weekend – amid interest in Guinea striker Sory Kaba.
Albion are monitoring Kaba's situation at Danish club FC Midtjylland, where the frontman has 12 months remaining on his deal.
Kaba, 28, spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff, where he scored eight goals in 17 appearances and was a popular figure.
The international forward is in demand with reported interest from the Baggies' Championship rivals Leeds, Watford and Cardiff all interested in a move, as well as Spanish outfit UD Las Palmas.
Corberan and head of football operations Ian Pearce are keeping tabs on a possible loan for Kaba, though there are other options on the club's shortlist. Kaba netted for the Bluebirds in March's 1-1 draw against Albion.
The Baggies are working to bring a striker to The Hawthorns ahead of Saturday's clash at Blackburn.
Corberan said: "I think we have the responsibility to start the league covering some of the positions better, like I told you, specifically the number nine, is something that we are going in the market to find, because you cannot only depend on Asante.
"Because still for (Mo) Faal it's a big, massive step to move from National League North level to the Championship, with young players you cannot put the responsibility for the future of the club with young players to go.
"We have proactive idea to cover the position because you need two players to be a competitive team."
Brandon Thomas-Asante remains Albion's only current senior striker with Daryl Dike out injured until the end of 2023.
It is thought Albion will remain in the market for other further additions, with only Brighton attacker Jeremy Sarmiento in on loan so far.
The cub are trying to work sales to help ease the financial landscape.
