West Brom striker Karlan Grant out after suffering broken foot

Albion are set to be without Karlan Grant for the next five to six weeks after the striker cracked a bone in his foot.

Grant joined the Baggies from Huddersfield back in October in a deal that could eventually be worth £15million.

But despite making 12 appearances, the striker has struggled to find his best form since moving to The Hawthorns.

Grant has managed just one top flight goal – with that come in the 1-1 draw at Brighton back in October.

And now the 23-year-old is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after injuring his foot in training.

“He (Grant) has cracked a bone in his foot,” head coach Sam Allardyce said.

“That was confirmed after he had an X-ray.

“It’ll probably be, if we’re lucky, five weeks maybe.

“Don’t hold me to that, because I’m not the medical expert, but it’ll be around that time.”

Better news for Albion on the injury front is that Kyle Bartley is now over a thigh strain he picked up in training back in December.

The centre-back was able to come off the bench and get roughly 20 minutes under his belt during Saturday’s loss to Arsenal.

Bartley was introduced for Branislav Ivanovic against the Gunners – with the Serbian having once again struggled in a Baggies shirt.

The former Chelsea man has enjoyed a glittering career that has seen him win three Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League.

But at 36-years-old, there are now questions as to whether he can still compete physically in English football’s top tier.

And with Ivanovic struggling, Allardyce admitted Bartley’s return is a big boost.

“He was okay – it was just the pace of the game at this level and the night we’d had,” Allardyce said, when asked why he took Ivanovic off against Arsenal.

“He stuck to his job but at his age, he was tired somewhat.

“Kyle, coming back from an injury, we got him a few minutes under his belt because he’s going to be important to us.”

Meanwhile, Albion legend Chris Brunt has left Bristol City after picking up a calf injury that will mean he misses the majority of the season.

The 36-year-old left the Baggies in the summer after 13 outstanding years at The Hawthorns during which he achieved three promotions.

He is also Albion’s record Premier League appearance holder having featured in 269 top flight games for the club.

Brunt moved to Ashton Gate on a one-year deal and went on to play 14 times for Dean Holden’s side. But the former Northern Ireland international tore his calf at Rotherham on December 12.

“We felt it was in both our interests to end the agreement now,” said Bristol City chief executive Mark Ashton.

“Chris has been a pleasure to deal with in those discussions and we wish him all the best.”

It is understood Brunt will now undergo his rehab and assess the extent of his injury before deciding whether or not to retire.
