But Albion’s Kyle Edwards has shown he is also a dab hand when it comes to making music.

Earlier this week, the 22-year-old released the song ‘Promotion Ting’ to celebrate the Baggies’ return to the Premier League.

And it’s fair to say the catchy tune has proven to be a huge hit.

Currently available on YouTube but soon to be released on Spotify and iTunes, Edwards admits people often fear the worst when footballers turn to music.

But the Dudley-born star’s song has received widespread praise with his team-mates and head coach Slaven Bilic also giving it a big thumbs up.

“Everyone keeps saying how catchy it is which is great,” Edwards said.

“I’m always listening to music and me and my brother sometimes write a few bars in our phones.

“A few of my friends have also started going to the studio so – after our promotion – I just thought I would have a go.

“I just wanted to see if people would like it and how it would go down but now it has taken off a little bit which is fantastic.

“Because I’m a footballer and I’m rapping, I think everyone expected it to be a little bit cringe and not very good.

“So I think everyone has been shocked because a lot of people seem to like it.”

The song focuses on the story of the 2019/20 campaign.

Edwards also gives shout-outs to a number of his team-mates – including Matheus Pereira, Romaine Sawyers, Ahmed Hegazi, Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi.

And he says the song has gone down well inside the Albion dressing room.

“I actually started writing it the night before the QPR game,” Edwards continued. “I was staying in the hotel the night before and that’s when it came into my head a little bit. But we hadn’t played the game yet so I didn’t want to write too much. We played the game, went up and I went on holiday. I was chilling by the pool I wrote the rest of it then.

“Then when I came back I went in the studio and recorded it over a couple of days with a few of my friends, my friends have helped me a lot. I showed all my team-mates when we came back for pre-season.

“They all watched it and said I had to get it out straight away. They all love it.”

Edwards also showed the track to Bilic who was impressed.

But having once been in a band himself, the Croatian had some pointers for any future songs. “I showed it to the gaffer and he said he likes it, he likes the rhythm,” Edwards continued.

“But he said I need to do more in the background, it needs more oomph! I told him I’ll do that with the remix. That’s the gaffer, always looking for you to improve.”

The video for Promotion Ting has already got almost 40,000 views on YouTube. Jonathan Leko – who has just left Albion for Blues – also features in it as do Edwards’ dad, brother and cousin.

“My friend Montel, who I went to school with, helped me with the video and I’m really pleased with it,” the winger added.

“My cousin Josh and my friend Chay Tilt all came into the studio with me to give me pointers. My dad, little brother and little cousin are also in it and then it’s my friends from around Dudley. Jonathan Leko too. We’ve been playing together since we were about 10.

“We all really enjoyed doing it.”
