West Brom deals set to go down to the wire

Albion could be set for a busy end to the transfer window with the club still in talks with some of their primary targets.

On Wednesday, the Baggies completed the signing of Sheffield United forward Callum Robinson on loan.

And tomorrow morning they are expected to confirm the capture of Hull’s Kamil Grosicki after the two clubs agreed an £800,000 plus add-ons deal for the winger.

Head coach Slaven Bilic is understood to be happy with the business Albion have conducted this January – with the club having also managed to keep Grady Diangana for the entire season.

But the Baggies are determined to recruit well this month and are happy to sanction moves for some of their key targets, whose availability has changed in the last 48 hours.

Speaking on Tuesday, Bilic said he wanted to add two forwards to his ranks before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

But the Express & Star understands there is now a chance a third forward could arrive – in addition to Robinson and Grosicki.

Newcastle winger Christian Atsu is one reported target, as is striker Matej Vydra, who had a loan spell at The Hawthorns back in the 2013/14 campaign.

Both those players are believed to want to leave their clubs this month – with Burnley’s Vydra particularly eager for a move as he bids to force his way into the Czech Republic squad for Euro 2020.

Albion are also believed to have made an enquiry to Watford in an attempt to take Portuguese midfielder Domingos Quina on loan.

The Baggies were on the hunt for a central midfielder earlier in the window and missed out on a temporary deal for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

Now, though, it is understood they have expressed an interest in Quina, who was previously managed by Bilic at West Ham.

It was the Croatian who handed the midfielder his Hammers debut in 2016.

And now the youngster is believed to one of a handful of deals Albion are working on that could go right to the wire.

As well as those players, the Baggies are also considering a move for a defender if, as expected, Nathan Ferguson completes his move to Crystal Palace.

The full-back, who is out of contract in the summer, travelled to London on Wednesday to finalise his move to the Premier League side.

And speaking at a press conference earlier today, manager Roy Hodgson confirmed his interest in the 19-year-old.

“That transfer is still being conducted,” he said.

“He is a player we’ve coveted for a long time, and it is one we’d like to do.”
