Jay Rodriguez available for West Brom after FA rescind red card

Jay Rodriguez's red card has been rescinded by the FA, handing Albion a major selection boost ahead of tomorrow's match with Blackburn Rovers.

Rodriguez was shown a straight red in the 63rd minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns for an alleged stamp on Marco Matias.

But replays show the striker tried to jump over the Wednesday winger with his eyes firmly on the ball and contact looked minimal.

Albion immediately lodged an appeal against the red card, which carries a three-match ban, and on Monday night the FA announced it had been upheld.

An FA spokesperson said: "West Bromwich Albion’s Jay Rodriguez has had his suspension withdrawn with immediate effect after an Independent Regulatory Commission upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal.

"He was sent off for violent conduct against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday."

Rodriguez's availability is even more important with current top scorer Dwight Gayle unlikely to play at Ewood Park because of a hamstring injury.
