Blackburn Rovers chief wants to keep Bradley Dack

Albion approached Rovers in the summer with several offers for Dack, who has twice been League One player of the year.

And the Baggies retain an interest in the 24-year-old, who could become a target in January should Leicester recall Harvey Barnes.

Dack has got off to an equally impressive start in the Championship, netting eight times in 10 games so far.

Waggott confirmed Albion had bid for Dack in the summer but does not wish to lose the playmaker.

“We had a few offers for Dacky which were well chronicled,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“We have to keep our best players and build around them.

“It shows we respect the efforts they have put in for the club, keep them highly motivated and lock them in.

“I’ve been at clubs where every year you can have more than half of the squad turning over and it’s a big ask starting from scratch and the manager has to impose his DNA on the group.

“We’re trying to rebuild the club to help us progress and with a stable platform of players.”

Rovers are currently managed by former Albion boss Tony Mowbray, and they are due to play at The Hawthorns later this month on Saturday, October 27.

Dack signed a new three-year contract with the Lancashire side in July after helping Mowbray’s side win promotion out of League One as top scorer.

Although Albion have a healthy relationship with their former boss, and sent Rekeem Harper on loan to Blackburn last season, Rovers won’t listen to offers under £20million.

That is likely to be too much for the Baggies, who remain in an overdraft following the summer window.

However, boss Darren Moore and new technical director Luke Dowling have only just begun drawing up plans for January.
