The 20-year-old announced himself to Baggies fans with a curling long-range effort from his weaker left foot in the 2-1 defeat to Bolton on the opening day of the season.

The effort was shortlisted alongside Luke O'Neill's free-kick for Gillingham and Michael Timlin's long-range effort for Stevenage ran by Quest TV, the channel that broadcasts EFL highlights this season.

And Barnes's goal won the public poll after receiving 68 per cent of the votes.

His strike has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award.

Barnes is up against Ollie Watkins of Brentford and Barry Bannan of Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet poll. Albion fans can vote here.
