Walsall youngster scores on his international debut for Jamaica

Walsall’s Clarke scored just eight minutes into his Jamaica debut last night.

Walsall youngster Courtney Clarke marked for international debut with the opening goal during Jamaica’s 2-0 win over India in the 2026 Unity Cup on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old received his first international call-up for the Reggae Boyz last week, as they named a significantly younger squad for their Unity Cup tournament at The Valley.

Clarke debuted from the start and needed just eight minutes to get on the score sheet when he curled a sumptuous finish into the far top corner.

Charlton Athletic forward Kaheim Dixon doubled Jamaica’s lead to book their place in Sunday’s final against reigning champions Nigeria.

Former non-league hotshot Clarke joined Walsall from Eastbourne Borough last summer - scoring two goals and setting up seven more in 50 appearances across all competitions during his debut campaign.

After scoring his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Bromley in late November last year, Clarke added to his tally with a long-range consolation goal in a 5-1 defeat at Norwich City in the FA Cup in January.

But he finished the 2025-26 with the most assists for the Saddlers - six in the league and seven in all competitions.

He becomes the fourth Walsall player to feature on the international stage in the past year.

Former loanee Daniel Kanu scored for Sierra Leone in his first cap in over 18 months in March - while Vincent Harper made his debut for Kenya in October.

Kanu has since returned to his parent club Charlton and Montserrat international Brandon Comley was released earlier this month after four seasons with Walsall.

Liam Gordon currently holds the record for the most international caps as a Walsall player (19 for Guyana) - surpassing goalkeeper Mick Kearns’ record of 15 for Northern Ireland during the 1970s.
