Walsall v West Brom abandoned due to heavy rain

Walsall’s friendly with Albion tonight was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch – and it is not set to be rescheduled.

Heavy rainfall saw the Banks’s Stadium pitch deemed unplayable, with supporters who had arrived at the ground soon having to travel back home.

The game was supposed to kick off at 7.30pm but was called off at around 6pm while areas of standing water could also be seen on the stadium car parks.

Saddlers chief Matt Taylor and his coaching team had gone out on the pitch to try to clear the most affected areas but will now work on getting ready for the final pre-season friendly at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Walsall said that fans will be given automatic refunds and will not need to contact the ticket office.

The Baggies, meanwhile, are releasing refund details in due course.
