Priestley Farquharson insists Walsall need to deliver results "where it matters" ahead of a crunch period in the season.

Walsall host Fleetwood Town at Bescot on Tuesday night, before facing four of the current top seven in succession in the space of just 10 days.

They ended a seven-match winless run with a 2-1 victory at local rivals Shrewsbury Town thanks to Farquharson's brace.

That win sent Walsall to within just two points of the play-off places, with games in hand on all but one of the teams above them in the table.

Key period on the horizon

And the centre-back has called on his team to lock themselves in and put pressure on their promotion rivals.

"People always say the back-end of the season is where it matters," Farquharson said.

"We have to win games. There are no if, buts or maybes. We have to win games, get three points and put pressure on the teams above us.

"So we have to keep going because we're a family and we're together. You could see it today [in the win at Shrewsbury] that it means so much to us.

"We've just got to get our heads down, take it game-by-game, get more wins on the table and make our home a fortress going into the end of the season."

Farquharson hits the goal scoring trail

Farquharson extended his season tally to five goals - equalling his record return from his last season at Newport County in 2022-23.

The 28-year-old is eager to add to that tally but is focused on the fate of the team above any personal aspirations.

"I know I'm a defender but I always want to try and help out," he added.

"With two goals, whoever scores it doesn't matter, as long as we try to contribute either way.

"But when I go up in the box, I'm going up to try to score. If I don't then I run back and just keep going."
