Walsall to make "decision" on Aaron Pressley ahead of Shrewsbury clash

Walsall striker Aaron Pressley will be assessed ahead their clash against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, after missing the past month with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury in training and has been forced to sit out three wins on the spin over Harrogate Town, Bromley and Oldham Athletic respectively.

Pressley, who has scored four goals in 17 appearances since joining Walsall in the summer, also missed the cup wins over former club Stevenage and non-league Gateshead in the EFL Trophy and FA Cup respectively.

Sadler confirmed that the Scotsman trained with the squad at the start of this week and is hopeful that he will be in contention for the visit of local rivals Shrewsbury.

"We look forward to hopefully welcoming back Aaron on Saturday," boss Sadler said.

"I've got a decision to make with Aaron because he's on the edge. We'll see how he gets on tomorrow [on Thursday].

"He has been training this week but we've not really trained properly because of the games. There is a possibility that he could be fit for Saturday but we've just got to make a decision whether he'll be right for the game."

Sadler made a total of six changes for the Saddlers' 1-0 win at Oldham Athletic on Wednesday night which saw them stretch their lead at the League Two summit to four points.

Jid Okeke and Evan Weir were among the most notable absentees, although Sadler has confirmed that the latter was rested.

As for Okeke, the Stockport County loanee took a knock to the book in the FA Cup win at Gateshead.

However, Okeke has trained this week and Sadler expects to be able to welcome him back into the fold.

"Jid was out there in training on Tuesday but it just came too quickly for him," he added.

"I'd expect him to be fit for Saturday."

Harrison Burke, Mason Hancock (both knee) and Harry Williams also remain side lined with longer term injuries.

Walsall are currently enjoying a run of six successive away wins in all competitions, whereas Shrewsbury sit 20th and just two points clear of the relegation zone.

The Shropshire outfit failed to win any of their opening six games in League Two - losing four in the process, and collected just a single win in their first 11 league games.

However, Michael Appleton has overseen somewhat of a resurgence following a run of just two defeats in the last nine games (winning three, drawing four).
