Powerless to prevent both of Shawn McCoulsky’s goals but did spring to his feet to deny Lewis Cass in the first half.

Powerless: 5

RICO BROWNE

Casual with the ball and was pickpocketed on a number of occasions as he struggled to get to grips with the game.

Casual: 4

PRIESTLEY FARQUHARSON

Hit the post with a chance early on but was frustratingly wayward with a number of his long passes from deep.

Wayward: 4

ADEN FLINT

McCoulsky glided past him with ease for the first goal although he was probably the best performer in a weak defensive display.

Bypassed: 5

MASON HANCOCK

Made inroads down the left early on but struggled to sustain that threat and became far too rushed in his play.

Rushed: 5

ALEX PATTISON

Best Walsall player on the pitch by a country mile. Industrious and exciting - also almost scored with a stunning half-volley.

Standout: 7

CHARLIE LAKIN

Deputised for Brandon Comley at the base of midfield but was outbattled in the centre of the park on a challenging afternoon.

Outbattled: 5

JAMIE JELLIS

Had a couple of bright moments in the first half and set-up a chance for Jid Okeke, but faded after the break.

Faded: 5

ALBERT ADOMAH

Sporadically combined with Pattison on the right, but only showed his qualities in flashes, as he went off on the hour.

Flashes: 5

DANIEL KANU

Had an early shot blocked, but struggled to get himself into the game which he spent large periods chasing shadows.

Struggled: 5

JID OKEKE

Denied one-on-one by Mark Oxley in the first half but was messy with some of his play and was hooked on the hour.

Replaced: 4

SUBS

COURTNEY CLARKE (for Okeke, 59) - 5

At least attempted to drive Walsall forward but his efforts were to no avail.

AARON PRESSLEY (for Adomah, 59) - 5

Had a half-chance blocked but otherwise ploughed a lone furrow following his introduction.

BRANDON COMLEY (for Pattison, 67) - 5

Picked up a booking for a cynical tackle on Tobias Brenan.

CONNOR BARRETT (for Farquharson, 77)

AARON LOUPALO-BI (for Jellis, 77)

Not used: Hornby, Burke.
