Walsall player ratings: Five 7s and two 5s in frustrating Fleetwood defeat
George Bennett gives his Walsall player ratings from their 1-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town at Bescot in League Two.
SAM HORNBY
Deputised between the sticks again and produced a smart save to tip behind a tricky cross-cum-shot by Mark Helm in the second half.
Alert: 6
PRIESTLEY FARQUHARSON
Caught ball-watching when Helm was left unmarked to score, but was strong in the air and constantly looked to get the ball forward.
Strong: 7
ADEN FLINT
Guilty of ambling out to Ethan Ennis for the Fleetwood goal, although he was much tidier in his overall play.
Tidier: 6
EVAN WEIR
Lost the ball before the goal and was sloppy in possession early on. Grew into the game and served a real driving force going forward.
Grew: 7
BRANDON COMLEY
Such an understated player in this team. Kept Walsall ticking in possession and always looks to thread passes between the lines.
Understated: 7
JID OKEKE
Difficult to stop when he is in full flow and was involved in a number of good moments for Walsall going forward. Positional play was not always the tidiest.
Threat: 7
JAMIE JELLIS
Having his best spell in a Walsall shirt all season. Provided good energy and helped create numerous overloads on the right.
Good: 7
CHARLIE LAKIN
Created a quick counter-attack for Daniel Kanu at 0-0 but was far too quick to dispense with the ball when composure was required at times.
Difficult: 6
VINCENT HARPER
Dragged out of position and lost his duel with Will Davies for the goal and was unable to provide the quality needed in attacking areas.
Lacking: 5
DANIEL KANU
Forced Jay Lynch into two saves and drove another shot wide, although he was perhaps better placed to pass on the odd occasion.
Ungenerous: 6
AARON PRESSLEY
Came agonisingly close to connecting with a low cross from Weir. Involved in some good interplay but ultimately unable to deliver in front of goal.
Frustrating: 6
Subs
COURTNEY CLARKE (for Lakin, 60)
Enjoyed a couple of bright runs with the ball and released Aaron Loupalo-Bi to set-up a golden chance for Jamille Matt with a sumptuous pass.
Bright: 6
ALBERT ADOMAH (for Harper, 68)
Introduced midway into the second half at right wing-back and the veteran tracked up and down relentlessly during his cameo.
Worked: 6
JAMILLE MATT (for Pressley, 68)
Squandered a big chance when he fluffed his lines following a cutback from Aaron Loupalo-Bi.
Wasteful: 5
ALEX PATTISON (for Jellis, 79)
Unable to get on the ball during his short time on the pitch - accumulating just two touches.
AARON LOUPALO-BI (for Kanu, 79)
Broke on the right with a smart run and unselfishly squared for Matt who passed up a glorious chance.
