Walsall player ratings after disappointing FA Cup exit
Jack Dakin marks the Saddlers following a disappointing day at Newport County

JED WARD
Conceded three, although could not have done much to prevent the first two. Slow to react for Newport's third and distribution was unusually inaccurate. Little to do, but still let three in.
Elusive: 5
JAMES FURLONG
A last-minute change to the starting XI with Mason Hancock getting injured in the warm-up. Walsall missed the attacking threat that Hancock provides, though admittedly Furlong came in cold.
Underprepared: 5
RYAN LEAK
Part of a defence that shipped three on the road. Struggled on the ball and looked unconvincing at times.
Poor: 4
DECLAN SKURA
Slow to react for Newport's third as Kion Etete beat him to the ball. Unusually shaky at times with some misplaced passes.
Shaky: 5
ELICHA AHUI
Struggled on the ball and looked shaky off it. Set up Andy Dallas's opener with a good cross but faded after that.
Struggled: 4
CHARLIE CREW
Harshly booked after half-an-hour – impacted how he played thereafter. Looked somewhat busy next to Sven Sprangler and had a few nice touches.
Quiet: 6
SVEN SRANGLER
Captained the side for the first time against his former club. Put himself about, worked hard and tried to anchor the Saddlers.
Calm: 6
COURTNEY CLARKE
Showed flashes of trademark Courtney Clarke but struggled with limited help from his full-back. Picked up a knock but continued to play.
Flashes: 6
ANDY DALLAS
Netted the opener inside six minutes with a powerful finish from a rebound. Won a few headers and worked hard, but struggled to get into the game after his goal.
Scorer: 6
LEWIS SIMPER
Gave away a handful of cheap fouls inside first 30 minutes, potentially due to frustration. Largely ineffective off the right, but didn't have too much of the ball in advanced positions.
Ineffective: 5
AARON PRESSLEY
Struggled to have much of an impact on the ball – service was limited in fairness. Worked tirelessly off-the-ball and won important defensive headers.
Work rate: 6
SUBSTITUTES
Tai Sodje (for Dallas, 63) Nodded straight at Jordan Wright from six yards with what was Walsall's best chance of the second half. Struggled to threaten against a physical Newport team. Difficult: 5
Reece Smith (for Simper, 63) Looked bright on the left flank when he replaced Lewis Simper and tried to make things happen. Sharp: 6
Isaac Moore (for Crew, 63) Delivered a fantastic cross to Sodje after 80 minutes, but the latter failed to convert. Always going to struggle to impact the game in a 30-minute cameo at 3-1. Effort: 6
Albert Adomah (for Pressley, 76), Ryan Sjoerdsma (for Clarke, 90)
Subs not used: Wooster, Connolly, Burke, Dixon.
