Walsall land Huddersfield Town midfielder on season-long loan

The Huddersfield midfielder becomes the Saddlers’ first deadline day signing.

Walsall have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Antony Evans on a season-long loan from League One side Huddersfield Town.

The 27-year-old scored twice and set-up eight more in 46 appearances during two seasons at Huddersfield, where he previously played under Walsall boss Lee Grant last term.

Prior to his spell with the Terriers, Evans registered 26 goals and 26 assists in 142 appearances for Bristol Rovers, who he won promotion to League One with in 2022.

Evans, who came through the ranks at Everton, has also had spells with Morecambe, Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool, as well as a stint in Germany with Paderborn.

“I’m at that stage where I needed to head out and game some games under my belt, I know the gaffer as well, which is a really big factor and I’m just looking forward to getting going,” Evans said.

“Having crossed paths with Lee at Huddersfield, I know how he works and whilst I wasn’t able to play under him with injuries and stuff, I’ve wanted to work with him and he’s a big reasons why I’ve come here.

“I’d like to describe myself as an all-rounder - I’m someone who’s full on energy, I like to get stuck, create chances and score goals to help the team.

“I’ve had my eye on results and it’s been a great start to the season so far, so hopefully I can add to that and contribute where possible.”

Evans becomes the Saddlers’ 15th signing of the summer window and their first on transfer deadline day.

Head coach Grant added: “Having worked together previously, I had no hesitation in bringing him on board.

“He’s an imposing player with size and physicality and more important his quality with the ball is something we’re delighted to add to the group.”
