Walsall injury round-up as Roman Dixon continues road to recovery

The latest Walsall injury round-up ahead of their League Two trip to Swindon Town on Saturday.

Lee Grant revealed Walsall have no fresh injuries concerns ahead of their trip to Swindon Town.

But the Saddlers still have four players on the sidelines. Here is the full injury round-up...

Dixon is still working his way towards match fitness, after struggling with a number of knocks since joining Walsall in the summer.

The former Everton full-back arrived just prior to the Saddlers’ League Two opener against Gillingham, during which he made his debut as a half-time substitute.

He has not featured in the league since and was forced off 18 minutes into his return against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy last month.

Grant said: “He's getting there. I'm being guided a little bit by him, his symptoms and how he's feeling.

“I'm hopeful that in the next few weeks we'll be in a better position and we'll have him up and running.”

Antony Evans - hamstring (0%)

Evans arrived on loan from Huddersfield Town on transfer deadline day and started the next three games in attacking midfield.

But he pulled up in the opening exchanges of the 2-0 win over Port Vale last month and was subsequently ruled out until the end of the year.

“We’ve lost Patto [Alex Pattison] and we’ll lose him until the New Year and we’ve lost Evo [Evans], who won’t be far behind him,” Grant confirmed last month.

“We’ll have Patto back at some time in January and Evo towards the back end of the year, hopefully a bit before Patto, but another long road for him as well.”

Alex Pattison - hamstring (0%)

Pattison has not been able to shake off his injury tag since joining from Bradford City in January.

He suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season, which was expected to keep him sidelined for two months.

The 29-year-old appeared to be ahead of schedule, and even returned to training, but suffered another setback in his recovery. That is now set to keep him out until at least January.

Grant added: “Patto has had an awful run of luck and our thoughts are with him at the moment.

“Selfishly, you can feel sorry for yourself, but actually, the most important person on the inside of that is Patto.”

Harry Williams - Achilles (0%)

Grant refrained from setting a timeframe on Williams’ potential return when asked at the start of pre-season.

Williams has not featured since suffering an Achilles injury during the League Two play-off final in May 2025.

He was aiming to return before the end of last season, but another setback earlier this year has extended his spell on the sidelines.

The Walsall head coach recently revealed that his rehabilitation is “going to plan”, although it remains unclear when he will be available again.

"Absolutely to plan, which is nice, because these things aren't always straight forward,” Grant revealed earlier this month.

"It's nice when things are moving in the right direction and as planned. I think with H, every week we're able to say that that's been a really positive week.”
