Walsall boost as Febian Brandy cancels Sheffield United contract

Walsall's hopes of bringing back Febian Brandy have been significantly boosted after the winger had his Sheffield United contract cancelled.

It is understood the 25-year-old's deal at Bramall Lane, which had a year left to run, has been terminated by mutual consent.

That should open up a permanent return to the Banks's for Brandy, who spent the second half of last season back on loan with the Saddlers.

Dean Smith is known to be keen on his return, as is the player.

A brief statement on United's website said: "Sheffield United can today confirm that Febian Brandy has been released from his contract with the Club.

"The striker made 15 appearances after signing as a free agent last summer. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Walsall.

"United would like to thank Febian for his contribution whilst at the Club."

Brandy moved from the Saddlers to United a year ago today, signing a two year deal.

But he struggled to find his feet in Yorkshire and fell badly out of favour with boss Nigel Clough after being needlessly sent off at Shrewsbury Town.

He made 20 appearances for the Saddlers while back on loan, scoring four goals including a hat-trick in the 5-1 win at Notts County.
