They've beaten the 'better' sides - it is now about doing it against the rest for Walsall

In terms of statement wins the thumping of Gillingham was right up there for Walsall.

Isaac Hutchinson said before the game that this side were capable of beating anyone in the division, but it has really been all about consistency for Walsall.

It was ironic really that he was the man on fire on Saturday, to lead his side to victory.

Before the game and on the back of the shambolic result at Sutton the week before, there was a danger it could go from bad to worse for Walsall.

But like Hutchinson said, they showed they do have the quality to beat anyone in the division. They did it against a very good side like Gillingham, who came into the game in third place.

They have done that already this season.

Mat Sadler's side have picked up big wins against the more fancied sides, such as Stockport County, who now sit top.

They also got results against Bradford, and as we have said, against Gillingham, who were the fancied side going into the game.

What they haven't been able to do is consistently pick up results and beat sides who you'd probably expect them to beat.

They have struggled against the more unfancied sides.

That is the big challenge for them now, to get results against those types of teams because if they can, while also beating the stronger outfits, that is how they will build momentum.

I'd also say the one thing Walsall have maybe been guilty of at times this season is not being clinical enough in the final third, but that is something we saw change on Saturday.

Aside from the goals, which were superbly taken, they hit the crossbar, and the rest of the clear chances, they took.

It shows how dangerous and ruthless they can be, and if they can replicate that against Newport, who defensively have struggled this season, I can see them picking up another three points.
