Swindon Town are in a slump - can Walsall compound their misery?

Swindon Town will be looking to avoid a third successive league defeat when they host Walsall this weekend.

Walsall have a prime chance to get back to winning ways when they travel to a Swindon Town team on its knees under Ian Holloway.

Holloway has proven a polarising figure at the County Ground in recent times and described himself as a “dead man walking” earlier this month.

The pressure is beginning to seriously mount on his managerial hotseat following a wretched run of seven matches without a win in all competitions (losing six).

They head into the upcoming clash against the Saddlers sitting 17th in League Two and looking to avoid a third successive league defeat.

That does not mean that the Robins don’t have their threats, and very few are as dangerous as Aaron Drinan in front of goal in this division (if any).

Drinan won the League Two golden boot last season with 22 and has scored five of Swindon’s nine league goals so far this term.

An injury crisis is partly to blame for Swindon’s recent slump, as Holloway had a staggering 13 players on the sidelines earlier this month.

Fellow attackers Paul Glatzel and Joe Hungbo have been struggling with knee injuries, which puts their availability in doubt.

Swindon have also been without former Wolves striker Fletcher Holman all season due to a hamstring tear, although he is due to return to partial training next week.

While there is an overreliance on Drinan in attack, Swindon are also proving shaky defensively, keeping just one clean sheet in the league so far.

That has not stopped experienced goalkeeper Connor Ripley receiving his deserved plaudits, as he heroics have reduced further damage in recent weeks.

As for Walsall, they will be looking to compound the Robins’ misery, after making a much more positive start in League Two, although they need to start translating draws into wins.
