Saddlers' season to kick off early - here's why

The kick-off has been brought forward by 24 hours.

Walsall’s trip to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City in the Carabao Cup first round has been rescheduled due to a local festival.

The Saddlers, who were due to get their campaign underway on Friday, August 7, will now be kicking off 24 hours earlier on Thursday, August 6, at 7:45pm.

Following conversations with both Bristol City and the EFL, the decision has been taken to bring the kick-off time forward.

“The reason for this change is due to the hosts being advised that the fixture could not take place between Friday and Sunday due to the annual Balloon Festival,” a club statement read.

“An event which sees road closures in and around Ashton Gate and over 500,000 people attending over the weekend.

“Whilst the change is out of our control, we would like to send our apologies to supporters for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The club will be releasing ticket details for the fixture in due course.
