Saddlers' Kieron Morris going to Wembley

Sometimes the toughest decisions come with the biggest rewards, something Kieron Morris knows only too well.

The 20-year-old winger admits leaving Walsall for a loan spell at Wrexham in late January, just days after the Saddlers had reached the Wembley for the first time in their history, was no easy choice.

Yet tomorrow his courage will be vindicated when he walks out at the home of English football for the Dragons in the FA Trophy final against North Ferriby United.

"It's incredible really," he says. "I thought my chance of getting to Wembley was gone when I left Walsall. Now here I am.

"One of the first games I played in here was in the Trophy and it was a surprise when the manager turned round to me and asked if I realised how close we were to Wembley?

"I'd never thought about it."

Morris began the season with hopes of breaking into the Saddlers first team and scored the winner in the 2-1 Capital One Cup victory at Southend back in August.

But after finding his opportunities limited as the campaign wore on, he was ready for a fresh challenge when Wrexham boss Kevin Wilkin came calling.

"It wasn't an easy decision, far from it, particularly with the buzz which was around Walsall at the time," he says.

"But I felt this was what I need to do.

"When you are not playing or only getting a few minutes here and there off the bench, it is hard.

"I could feel my confidence starting to drop and I knew I had to start playing football.

"Coming to Wrexham has allowed me to do that and I feel much more confident now. They are a big club in the Conference, I'm scoring goals and really enjoying my football."

Morris had the final say in Wrexham's semi-final win over Torquay, plundering the final two goals to complete a 5-1 aggregate win.

And he got a taste of what to expect last weekend, when he was in the crowd as his parent club were beaten by Bristol City in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

Morris knows Wrexham, who are captained by former Saddlers star Dean Keates, go into the game as big favourites against Vanarama North outfit Ferriby.

But it is a tag which doesn't faze him.

"I think they'll be relishing the underdog tag," he said. "But we just have to make sure we are prepared.

"I'm looking forward to it so much. There are about 15,000 fans coming down to watch us and the whole town is buzzing."
