Oisin McEntee fires Walsall warning

Walsall midfielder Oisin McEntee has insisted Saddlers must be prepared for their opponents to see them as ‘their cup final’ this season.

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat to play-off chasers Bradford City, the Irish midfielder admitted his side were not at their best in West Yorkshire.

The result saw Walsall’s hopes of achieving ten consecutive wins in League Two end, but the 23-year-old is hopeful another run can begin tomorrow against Fleetwood Town.

“This is what is going to happen when you’re winning games; you become the team to beat, and you become everyone’s cup final,” McEntee said. “We know our opponents and their fans are always going to be up for their games against us, but we know how to deal with that and still play our own game.”

He added: “I think it was a tough game in front of loads of fans, and it was two big clubs going at it.

“It was a game of moments, and those moments went against us today. We tried our best, but Bradford played well and won the game.”

McEntee also backed Danny Johnson, who missed a second half penalty at the University of Bradford Stadium, to bounce back in midweek too.

“I’d put my house on Danny each time he takes a penalty because he’s that type of player, and he backs himself every time,” McEntee explained. “I don’t think it’ll phase him because he’s scored goals all throughout his career, it was just one of those days for him and us.”

“We never gave up and that’s the kind of attitude we always have, that’s what the gaffer wants and that’s what the fans deserve because they never gave up on us either.

We weren’t at our best but listen, we were on a nine-game winning streak and some days aren’t going to be your day.”
