Jid Okeke "raring to go" for Walsall ahead of Grimsby clash - Mat Sadler

Mat Sadler says Jid Okeke is "raring to go" after returning to training with Walsall over the past week.

Okeke was initially unable to train in the build-up to the Saddlers' previous defeat to Barnet earlier this month due to the adverse weather conditions.

The 22-year-old re-joined Walsall on loan after making 18 appearances during the first half of the season prior to his recall by Stockport County.

And the 11-day break between games has provided the German-born wing-back with a platform to regain match-fitness ahead of Wednesday's trip to Grimsby Town.

"He hadn't trained with us [before the Barnet defeat] because of the weather which was frustrating," boss Sadler said.

"We've been very lucky that we've had a full week and a bit more of training since then.

"So Jid is ready, right and raring to go."

Sadler pleased with Burke and Hancock comebacks

Harrison Burke and Mason Hancock have also featured prominently in recent weeks after lengthy spells on the side lines.

Hancock missed almost five months with a dislocated knee while Burke was side lined for over three months with a knee issue.

But Hancock has started three of the past four games and Burke has also played 90 minutes in two of their last three in League Two.

"I'm really pleased with both. We're going to need both players within the squad certainly with the run of games that we've got," he added.

"After the next two games on Wednesday and Monday, the game on the following Saturday goes into another run of loads of games.

"The good thing for Mason and Harrison is that they have come through that period without injury.

"It's so often the case with long-term injuries that you think you're back, but you're not really back, and then you pick up something else.

"That's been at the forefront of our mind throughout all of it. They look fighting fit now and both players are just desperate to play their part, which I'm sure they will."
