The 38-year-old scored his first brace since playing for Aston Villa in 2017 - opening the scoring with an instinctive flick inside four minutes, before wrapping up with win with a dinked finish in stoppage time.

Adomah also set-up the other for substitute Aaron Pressley, after delivering a stunning cross with the outside of his boot following a blistering run down the left.

The former Ghana international extended his season tally to seven goals and four assists - a return only bettered by top scorer Daniel Kanu (16 goals, three assists).

He was making his first start in nine games, as Walsall ended a run of three successive defeats in League Two, which ultimately cost Mat Sadler his job last week

Darren Byfield marked his first game in interim charge with the Saddlers' heaviest league win of the season and is expected to be in the dugout again when Cambridge United visit Bescot on Tuesday night.

Upcoming opponents Cambridge also have three representatives following their 5-0 demolition of Gillingham on Saturday: Dominic Ball, Sullay Kaikai and Louis Appere.
