"Difficult" - Jamille Matt at a loss to explain Walsall's struggles at home
Jamille Matt admits it's "difficult to put his finger" on why Walsall have been struggling to pick up wins at home.
Walsall have collected just two wins from their last eight home games in League Two, after starting the campaign with five wins from six league games at Bescot.
After ending 2025 with a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Oldham Athletic, Walsall have registered back-to-back goalless stalemates against Accrington Stanley and Crawley Town on home soil since the turn of the year.
"Difficult to say. Teams know that traditionally we've been strong here in the past," the Walsall captain said.
"So maybe there is a little bit of a momentum shift with that. Then, when we go away, there is more of an impetus on that home team to come out and play.
"Possibly it suits us a little better but I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it is.
"There are however many games there is to. We'll keep taking it each game at a time."
In contrast, Walsall have picked up a joint-high 24 points on their travels in League Two - including a 3-1 win on their last road trip at Tranmere Rovers on January 17.
Matt scored his second goal of the season during that victory and his third in all competitions.
Walsall head to Chesterfield in sixth-place on Saturday - two places and four points ahead of their opponents in the table.
And 36-year-old Matt is hoping he can pass on his experience to help the team through their latest rough patch.
"I'm fitter because I've played more minutes. Naturally, you get fitter and sharper when you play more games," he added.
"We've touched on that I'm experienced at this level, so I'm just trying to pass on my experience to help the team."
