Walsall vs Bromley - preview: A tough test on the horizon for the Saddlers

In doing so, Bromley have propelled themselves into third-place, just two points adrift of Walsall at the top of the division. 

Time to get back on track at Bescot

It might be too early to read very much into permutations, but this is a prime opportunity for Walsall to put space between themselves and a direct rival. 

The priority right now though is to get back on track on home soil. Walsall have won successive away games against Harrogate and Newport County, and no team has registered more points on the road in League Two this term (17). 

However, the Saddlers have suffered back-to-back home defeats against Barrow and Colchester United respectively. Never before have they lost three home games in a row under Mat Sadler. 

In fact, they last sunk to such depths in February 2022 when Matt Taylor lost his job as a result. 

Sadler rewarded for boldness

Daniel Kanu continues to underline his importance to the team, after moving on to seven goals in all competitions last week. 

Sadler freshened things up in North Yorkshire with no fewer than four changes. Priestley Farquharson scored on his first league start in over 15 months and Jid Okeke impressed again at right wing-back. 

It was a bold move to give Okeke the nod over Connor Barrett, but it was a gamble that paid off. The Stockport County loanee is a handful for any defence, and his pace, dribbling and two-footedness posed plenty of problems for Harrogate. 

Jamille Matt is likely to partner Kanu in attack again, Sadler confirmed Aaron Pressley won't be available due to a hamstring injury. 

The 36-year-old set-up Kanu's opener in Harrogate and has strong support off the bench, especially following Kemar Roofe's arrival on a short-term deal. 

Roofe has featured twice from the bench since joining on an initial deal until January earlier this month. 

Harrison Burke has trained this week but is not expected to available, after missing seven weeks with a knee injury. Jamie Jellis also remains a doubt, as he continues to nurse an abdominal problem. 

Flint vs Cheek: a tasty battle

Michael Cheek, who scored in both meetings against Walsall last season, is one of the most potent frontmen in the division. 

Only Swindon Town striker Aaron Drinan (10) has scored more than Cheek (eight) in League Two this season and it should be a very tasty battle between himself and Walsall defender Aden Flint. 

Flint struck up a really good understanding with Farquharson, as Walsall kept their first clean sheet in 10 league games last time out.

Walsall will need to mindful of the Ravens' threat from set pieces too. Bromley have scored 16 times from dead ball situations, with centre-back Omar Sowumni finding the net in each of his last four games.
