Cheltenham vs Walsall - preview: Aden Flint eager to 'get one over' his former boss

Cotterill has provided the Robins with a much-needed boost and has lifted them out of the League Two drop zone with seven points from his first three games. 

He also has an excellent record against Walsall - collecting five wins and one draw from his six meetings in total. 

Flint scored five goals during those triumphs over the Saddlers, but will be looking to "get one over" his former manager in Gloucestershire.

"It's good to see Steve back in management. I'm delighted for him and he has been at Cheltenham before with success," Flint said.

"He has always spoken fondly of Cheltenham. So it's nice for him to go back there and hopefully get them back up the league. 

"It'll be nice to see him, but for 90 minutes, we're enemies, and it's going to be one that I'll want to get over him." 

Flint has made a superb start to life at Bescot - scoring once in 14 appearances across all competitions. 

He also reached a career milestone of 600 appearances in the 1-1 draw at Crawley Town earlier this month.

Mat Sadler part of 'new breed' of manager

Cotterill, who famously led Cheltenham to two promotions in his previous spell over 20 years ago, even encouraged the experienced defender to join Walsall back in the summer. 

Besides Cotterill, Flint has worked under a host of household names in football management, many of which operate in very different ways. 

Sadler is different still: part of the new school of management and it's a style that Flint has taken well to well.

"Everyone has their own take on how they want to be a manager," he noted.

"I've had the pleasure and privilege of working with some really established names in football. 

"Steve Cotterill, Paolo Di Canio, Tony Pulis, Neil Warnock, Mick McCarthy. So everyone is different. 

"The names I just mentioned are probably the more old school ones minus Di Canio. 

"Then you look at people like Darren Moore who I worked with at Sheffield Wednesday. 

"It's not necessarily a new breed, but the other managers I mentioned before, are more old school compared to the gaffer and Darren Moore.

"Everyone has got their own philosophy and a different way of seeing football." 

Walsall injury latest

Defender Harrison Burke is a major doubt after missing the past two league games with a knee injury.

The 23-year-old has worked with the physio team this week and Sadler admitted he is "unlikely" to be involved. 

Elsewhere, Mason Hancock (knee) and Harry Williams (Achilles) are the only long-term absentees in the Saddlers camp. 

Rico Richards and Jamille Matt were omitted from the squad last weekend due to illness, but are available for selection again.
