"I'm like a sponge" - Daniel Kanu eager to learn after his strong start at Walsall

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic, scored his fourth goal of the season during the Saddlers' 2-1 defeat against Barrow on Saturday. 

Kanu impressed despite the result and ended his mini-drought of three games without a goal to become Walsall's joint-leading scorer this term. 

The Sierra Leone frontman has an insatiable appetite for success and an eagerness to learn during his loan spell.

"I want to continue learning"

"It's a massive blessing and something I don't take lightly. That's why I just try to soak it all up," Kanu explained.

"I'm a sponge. I'm 20-years-old, so the best thing for me is to be a sponge and take it all in. 

"Even if somebody tells me that they don't like why I did something. Then I'd ask why do you think that? 

"That's the type of person I am - I'm a learner, and I want to continue learning because that's how I'm going to get better and become that multidimensional striker I want to become. 

"I'm really keen because whenever someone watches me, they have something different to say, especially when it's people with great experience I want to listen."

Kanu also earmarked first team coach and ex-Walsall striker Darren Byfield, who he revealed he has been working with closely since joining the club. 

He has also praised the experienced attacking duo Albert Adomah and Jamille Matt for the advice they've given him.

"I've played with an abundance of elite strikers. Connor Wickham, Alfie May, Matty Godden, Chuks Aneke, Charlie Kelman," he added.

"And here, I've got Albert Adomah and Jamille Matt. They both talk to me a lot, even just now Jamma was encouraging me."
